Under the supervision of the Controller, the Staff Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the Finance Department by ensuring the accurate and timely execution of financial transactions. Responsibilities include month-end journal entries, account reconciliations, payroll assistance, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational and problem-solving skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a high level of professionalism and discretion. In addition, the Staff Accountant works as a member of Choice in Aging’s (CiA) team to meet our mission to create opportunities where people can learn, grow, and age independently with dignity in community.

Essential Job Functions

Month-End Close:

Prepare and post month-end journal entries, including bank fees and interest income for all Choice in Aging bank accounts.
Complete monthly account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and integrity.
Perform monthly bank reconciliations.

Accounts Receivable / Payable:

Apply and monitor payments.
Promptly identify and resolve discrepancies.
Maintain accurate supporting documentation and ensure compliance with internal controls.

Payroll Assistance:

Assist with payroll processing, including balancing and posting, in coordination with the HR and Finance teams.

Financial Reporting:

Assist in preparing monthly internal financial statements and Board reports.
Ensure reports are timely, accurate, and comply with accounting standards and organizational policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
1-3 years of experience in accounting or finance; nonprofit or healthcare industry experience (preferred).
Experience with medical billing.

Job Type: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week

Monday-Friday (Closed on all major holidays)

Hourly Rate: $34.00 per hour
