Under the supervision of the Controller, the Staff Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the Finance Department by ensuring the accurate and timely execution of financial transactions. Responsibilities include month-end journal entries, account reconciliations, payroll assistance, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational and problem-solving skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a high level of professionalism and discretion. In addition, the Staff Accountant works as a member of Choice in Aging’s (CiA) team to meet our mission to create opportunities where people can learn, grow, and age independently with dignity in community.
Essential Job Functions
Month-End Close:
- Prepare and post month-end journal entries, including bank fees and interest income for all Choice in Aging bank accounts.
- Complete monthly account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and integrity.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
Accounts Receivable / Payable:
- Apply and monitor payments.
- Promptly identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate supporting documentation and ensure compliance with internal controls.
Payroll Assistance:
- Assist with payroll processing, including balancing and posting, in coordination with the HR and Finance teams.
Financial Reporting:
- Assist in preparing monthly internal financial statements and Board reports.
- Ensure reports are timely, accurate, and comply with accounting standards and organizational policies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
- 1-3 years of experience in accounting or finance; nonprofit or healthcare industry experience (preferred).
- Experience with medical billing.
Job Type: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week
Monday-Friday (Closed on all major holidays)
Hourly Rate: $34.00 per hour
